CALLING ALL MACKENZIES WORLDWIDE – Cuimhnichibh na domaine bho’n d’thainig sibh  ( remember those from whence you came!)

The Clan MacKenzie Society of Canada has been contacted to help build awareness of a community effort to preserve a historic Mackenzie site, Wester Ross, Highlands, Scotland.

The Church at Clachan, Lochbroom nestling on the shores of LochBroom, Wester Ross, Scotland is in the heartlands of Clan Mackenzie territory and has been a site of worship for over 800 years. It is one of the oldest continuously used sites within the area. The sacrifices of Clan Mackenzie in the Jacobite Cause, including the fateful risings of 1715 and 1745, are witnessed in the burials around the elegant church. Memorials to Mackenzie’s from as early as 1666 may be seen.  The true account of their lives will resonate with all ‘Outlander’ fans.

The final service was held on 20th November 2016 and the church then closed. It has now been offered for sale to the local community.
The Clachan Lochbroom Heritage Trust (CLHT) was formed to save the church & to keep it within our community, to reopen it for services and other events, & to provide a historical resource for locals & visitors.

The CLHT is aiming to raise in the region of £200,000 ($336,435 CA) to cover both the purchase and necessary renovation work to enable this beautiful and important building to continue to serve its community and to remind visitors of their heritage.

Contributions of any amount will help them meet their goal
