DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Clan MacKenzie Society Tent! \nOver the past 40 years\, the Montreal Highland Games has become one of the premier events on the North American Highland games circuit. \n​The Montreal Highland Games is always held on the Sunday following the Glengarry (Maxville) Games\, which makes it a double header for pipe bands\, athletes\, Highland dancers and spectators. Among competitors\, this has become known as the M&M weekend. \nEvery year\, the Montreal Highland Games brings together Montrealers of Scottish and all other backgrounds to celebrate Highland games\, music and culture.\n​\nThe Games represent a wonderful opportunity for participants and visitors alike to discover the treasures\, legends and history of the rich Scottish culture.

DESCRIPTION:New Location For 2018 – after 80 years\, the Zorra Caledonian Society will be moving the Games to Canada’s Outdoor Park home of Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show located northwest of Woodstock. \n \nEvents include: \nHighland Clan – Join us for the Clan Parade around noon \nHighland DanceHighland Dance Competition \nCompetitors from Canada\, the U.S. and often Scotland help make this one of the larger Highland dance programs in Ontario. Dances include the Highland Fling\, Sword Dance\, Irish Jig\, Hornpipe\, Seann Truibhas\, and Pas de Basques. \nTug-of-War\nTug-of-war contests were a popular pastime among early Scottish settlers. Six Embro area farmers won the World Tug-of-War Championship at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893. \nPipe BandsHG-3\nSince ancient times\, the bagpipes have been a rallying force for Scots in war and peace. \nThe pipes remain a focal point for Scottish gatherings and are well represented at the Embro games through solo piping and drumming\, as well as band competitions. (Don’t miss the stirring spectacle of all bands playing as one during the Massed Band performances at mid-day and at Games closing.) \nHeavy EventsHG-12\nHeavy athletic events have been part of Scottish gatherings since the 11th century and were originally a means for ancient Highland chieftains to select and train soldiers. \nEmbro is hosting the 2017 Ontario Heavy Events Championship\, with events including the stone put (toss)\, weight for distance\, hammer throw\, caber toss and weight over bar. Contestants are invited based on rankings compiled by the Canadian Scottish Athletic Federation. \nRoad Race\nRunners from across Southwestern Ontario take part in the annual 10 km race which leaves the grounds at 9:00 am. The route extends north and circles back to the Games site. \nSheep Herding \nThe tough\, smart border collie has played a vital and historic role in the Scottish sheep industry. Several demonstrations of their amazing herding ability are offered. \nA local agility club will showcase all-breed agility events over courses involving tunnels\, jumps\, weave poles and other challenges. DESCRIPTION:The members of the Manitoba Highland Gathering strive to preserve\, promote\, nurture\, share and educate folk about our colourful Scottish Culture and Heritage\, Arts and Sports and Agriculture. \nWe are a non profit organization run exclusively by volunteers (youth to senior) putting on an R.M. of St. Clements designated family fun filled out door event with the rain venue on site. \nIf you are of the same mind set\, come and join us so we can continue to be a yearly event and be here for our future generations – at least the next 50 years. \nWe welcome folks interested in working with us throughout the year and on the days of the Gathering. We love what we do and have a good time doing it. Shared jobs make the load much lighter\, easier and more fun. SUMMARY:Mosaic Multicultural Festival Regina - Visit us at the Scottish Pavillon
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Scottish Pavillon \nThe Regina Multicultural Council (RMC) was established in 1973. It replaced the Regina Folk Arts Council and the Regina Folk Arts and Cultural Council. The group functions as an umbrella organization for over 60 member groups representing 45\,000 people. The mandate of the RMC is to promote multiculturalism within Regina. \nFor 30 years\, the RMC’s best-known promotional activity has been the Mosaic Festival. A yearly favourite\, the festival started in 1974 as a 1-day celebration to promote multiculturalism. It has since grown into a 3-day long festival\, with pavilions operating around the city. Every year\, Mosaic provides an opportunity for Reginans to celebrate the diverse multicultural traditions of the city’s residents. Pavilions have exhibits of artifacts\, traditional dancing and food\, food\, food!

Pipers\, drummers\, dancers\, heavy events athletes\, and enthusiasts from all over Western Canada come to southern Saskatchewan each year on the May long weekend to participate in this exciting line-up of events. \nIn true Scottish hospitality\, the Gathering provides a friendly environment for members of the public to come and watch the various events taking place including the piping and drumming\, highland dancing\, heavy events\, and the very popular festival tent. After watching your favourite event\, take a stroll through our vendors market and pick-up something uniquely Scottish like a clan badge\, sporran\, sgian dubh (skeen doo – black dagger) or even a kilt! Food and refreshments are available all weekend and we have some very special events in both Regina and Moose Jaw. \nBring the whole family\, even your crowd-friendly pet.
